Net Worth Update May 2016

Hello! Here is are net worth update as of May 1st, 2016.

It was not a good month in the markets for us. We are slowly migrating our holdings into ETFs but still hold a number of individual stocks and are over-concentrated in a few. This came back to bite us this month but not worried and we will continue to shift into ETFs as opportunities arise.

On the debt payoff side – it was a bonanza month.  Work bonuses, a fat tax refund (I know, I know – we should not be lending money to the government!) and low spending helped us pay back more than 50% of the money we borrowed (stole) from our Heloc to invest. Our plan is to pay back the remaining balance by the end of the year.

Here is how our net worth has changed over time.

and there you have it. Monitoring our net worth can be painful at times – like watching a kettle boil or tugging on seedlings to make them grow faster.

What I Learned this Month…

  1. Cooking – I am convinced that everyone can learn to cook.  Even me! This month I made Apple Crisp for the first time and it was delish. #EveryoneCanCook
  2. # I really want to quit my job.
  3. Sometimes it is not about me. I have a friend (shocking I know…) and she has been standoffish lately. I could not for the life of me figure out what I had done to offend her. At one point, I stopped by her house to drop something off and she wouldn’t even come to the door to talk to me, she just sent out a family member with the message that she was busy. I was hurt and confused. Instead of doing the grown up thing of asking her what I had done wrong, I just stewed. And stewed some more. A week or so later she texted me to let me know her marriage was ending and she was doing her best to get through it. #FriendshipFail. Reminds me of the quote… not sure who to attribute it to.

You’ll worry less about what people think about you when you realize how seldom they do.

Words to live by. Thanks for visiting.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I can only imagine how cumbersome working can be if it gets to the point where you want to quit your job (I just started working this month so I can’t say) but it looks like your net worth is making positive increases so you are inching that much closer!

I’m looking forward to following more of your content! 🙂

    1. The HELOC is my nemesis LOL
Thanks for stopping by,,, sorry for the late reply – i have been offline most of the summer and loving it.
Glad to see your blog is going strong and I will by to check out your option income.

  2. Great month for sure! Nearly a million would make me want to quit to haha what your exit strategy/long term plan??

  3. I love your net worth updates May! 🙂 Sorry to hear about your friend. And I’m glad you know what’s up now. Something similar happened to me one time, and I never did find out what the deal was. I wish I’d been able to just ask, but my pride got in the way. Well, on to June! 🙂

  4. Thanks for sharing your net worth update with us. Nothing wrong with holding individual stocks as long as you are diversified and not chasing high yield fantasies. I’m not against ETFs at all and think they can serve a great purpose for any portfolio but so can a basket of individual stocks. Nice job reducing your debt too. Clearly you are on a mission.

  5. Wow very impressive reduction in debt in one year.
I’ve drifted apart from friends over time too and worried about it but I think you’ve just got to be confident you are spending your time with the people who give you energy and joy.

  6. That’s a great quote and very true! Thanks for sharing it and your update. You are killing it with your net worth increases each month, very nice! I bet you can’t wait to be debt free, that will be an amazing feeling.
